Our Green Mansions Catering History began in 1973 on the upper eastside of Manhattan. Our name was "A Private Townhouse Affair", and we almost single-handedly jump-started a brand new catering service industry of finding and renting one-of-a-kind Event Spaces, Unique Venues, Loft Spaces and Unusual Party Sites for creating important events. Some of these were private townhouses and mansions. Our clients responded enthusiastically to our Event Spaces and Unique Venues which seemed more interesting and original than traditional banquet halls and private club venues and allowed more creative and customzed Event Planning as well as fresher, more creative cuisine.

We have catered in our unique Event Spaces countless productions for weddings, corporations, charties, famlies, colleges, non-profits, associations and clubs. Probably the longest running caterer in Manhattan, we've catered to homes, offices, yachts, parks, theaters, museums, galleries, auction houses, storefronts and libraries in addition to our own venues. We have participated in all the many culinary trends for four decades, starting with Classical French and then moving through Nouvelle, Southwetern, Cajun, Mexican, Hudson Valley, Asian, Fusion and others. We concentrate on generous, elegant and updated cuisine; close, productive planning relationsips with clients; and producing great values.

For four decades we have rented venues around town to cater client's events. We have four decades of experience setting up rented spaces with equipment, kitchens, bars, dining areas, staffing, music, and audiovisual almost anywhere, such as FAO Schwartz, NY Public Library, Ralph Lauren, Radio City Music Hall, CBS Studios, Southebys, Explorers Club and Central Park
We don't have an outdoor terrace, but we do have many plants, trees, and a Garden Room. We don't have a rooftop, but we do have a full-floor penthouse with almost more window than wall. It's like being Outdoors. We do bring our catering to other rentable venues around town that have outdoor areas, however.
Lofts are very appealing to New Yorkers, and our Two Reception Venues are beautiful lofts with lots of open space for guests to enjoy and choreograph. Our loft-like venues can be set up in many ways, including grazing parties, formal dinners, ceremonies and presentations, and lounge effects. We maintain a lot of pin spots to highlight details and table centerpieces, creating drama in a loft-like space.
Manhattan Penthouse and Alger House are two magnificent alternatives for Corporate Events, Private Dinners and Receptions, and many kinds of internal and guest functions and celebrations. They are quite different from each other and can be set up in many ways for informal and formal effects. We have years of experience helping clients design all kinds of events. Alger House is particularly suitable for very small events for as few as 25 guests, and Manhattan Penthouse works for as few as 50 during the week. Alger House is one of the best deals in town for weekday bookings. We can cater a restaurant style dinner for twenty to thirty guests, including fine foods and wines, for less than many alternative spaces around town.
We host many daytime meetings, brainstorming sessions, workshops, Interview filmings, book signings, and Press and Publicity events. We create outstanding Continental and American Breakfasts as well as Light Lunches and more formal Buffet and Served Lunches, with Snack Breaks in between and Coffees and Beverages running all day. Both our locations have the quiet, privacy and magical atmosphere condusive to workshops, brainstorming and breakout sessions. Some of our daytime events end with a Cocktail Reception at the end of the day.
Both of our venues have the comfort, the quiet, the easy access, the high ceilings, and the experienced help in setting up filming, photography, and interviews, with areas for changing and makeup and arrangements for cheap meals and snacks. More than that, they have the various interesting backgrounds that are required for multiple set ups.
Small dinners with special menus and wines in one of our amazing rooms, just like a restaurant, but even better! Costs run approximately $125.00 to $200.00 per person, all in, depending on the guest count, the meal, and the special wines, for 8 to 24 guests. Perfect for special celebrations by individuals or corporations.
Sam Milliken, holder of the Intermediate Certificate from the Wine & Spirit Education Trust, can design your wine tasting cocktail reception or dinner for small or large groups. The liquor license at Manhattan Penthouse us to include top quality wines almost at cost.
4 hour workshop for 8 or more persons on how to prepare selected foods for entertaining at home, inlcuding ideas for hors d'oeuvre and dinners. $200.00 per person. Includes food and drink.
Weeklong summer workshop in professional catering, including menu ideas and preparation, food decorating, sales and marketing, financials, etc.
